Turkey's national currency - the Turkish lira - hit a record low of 35.1 Turkish liras to $1 today, Turkish media reported.
Yesterday, one dollar was trading at 34.9 liras.
The exchange rate, which for the first time exceeded the 35 lira to the dollar mark, has caused great concern in the markets, notes the economic publication borsametre.
In 2024, the Turkish lira depreciated by over 18 percent, and last year the lira lost nearly 25 percent of its value.
Market participants surveyed earlier this year by the Turkish Central Bank predicted that the exchange rate of the national currency at the end of 2024 will be 37.7 Turkish liras for 1 dollar.
