Greece to send missiles to Ukraine - 1

Greece has agreed to supply Ukraine with 24 Sea Sparrow missiles, which will support the Ukrainian armed forces in their fight against current threats, the online edition of the Greek newspaper Kathimerini reports, BTA reported.

These missiles, which have been in service for nearly 40 years, are from the Greek Navy and Air Force's stockpiles and are considered unnecessary for operational use according to Greek military standards.

"Sea Sparrow" is an American short-range anti-aircraft weapon and Ukraine already has the necessary launchers to launch them, the publication notes. This transfer is part of a wider Greek military aid to Ukraine, which includes artillery shells, weapons and ammunition.

The aid is in line with Greece's commitment to Ukraine's defense efforts, while not reducing Greece's defense capabilities in the Aegean Sea, "Kathimerini" specifies. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reaffirmed Greece's unwavering support for Ukraine during the recent European summit.
