More than 120 civilians were killed in shelling yesterday on Omdurman, a city located in close proximity to the capital Khartoum, the Sudanese volunteer rescue network said today. According to them, the indiscriminate attack was aimed at the western part of Omdurman, known as Dar es Salaam, part of Greater Khartoum, and they did not identify the perpetrators of the attack, quoted by BTA.

“This indiscriminate attack has killed 120 civilians according to initial casualty figures“, said the Ombada emergency unit, which is coordinating frontline aid in the country.

Rescuers report a severe shortage of medical supplies, including essential first-aid medicines, and that medical teams are struggling to cope with the large number of wounded.

The attack is just the latest in a series of violence that has gripped the country amid escalating fighting between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in recent weeks, after more than 20 months of war.

According to humanitarian agencies, tens of thousands of people have died since the start of the conflict, with the war pushing the country to the brink of famine. The army and the SDF have been accused of attacks on civilians, including medical teams, as well as indiscriminate shelling of residential areas.

Most of Omdurman is under the control of the Sudanese army, while the SDF controls North Khartoum (Bahri) and part of the Greater Khartoum region.
