Denmark: US pressure on Greenland is unacceptable - 1

The upcoming visit of a US delegation to Greenland, including the national security adviser, is a manifestation of "unacceptable pressure" against the Kingdom of Denmark, which includes the autonomous Arctic territory in which US President Donald Trump has expressed interest, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said today, quoted by Agence France-Presse.

"We cannot organize a private visit with official representatives of another country", Frederiksen said. "The pressure on Greenland and Denmark in this situation is unacceptable. And it is pressure that we will resist", she added.

A government is to be formed in Greenland after the March 11 elections.

On Facebook, the outgoing government said that "it will not send any invitations to visit – private or official".

"The current government is a transitional government, awaiting the formation of a new governing coalition, and we have asked all countries to comply with that process," the publication says.

US National Security Advisor Mike Walz will visit Greenland this week, announced the outgoing Prime Minister of the Arctic territory, Mute Egede, as well as Energy Minister Chris Wright.

The wife of US Vice President J.D. Vance – Usha Vance, will also be on the island with the delegation from Thursday to Sunday, where she will attend a dog sled race in Sisimiut, the White House announced.

"When a visit like this is organized and Greenlandic leaders say they don't want it, you can't take it as a sign of respect," Frederiksen said.
