Kremlin: We will send military assistance to North Korea if necessary - 1

Russia will provide assistance to North Korea if necessary in accordance with the military cooperation treaty, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, quoted by TASS, BTA reports.

"A treaty is already in force between us, and under this treaty, the strangers actually undertake to provide significant assistance to each other if necessary," he emphasized.

The actions of the Korean units that helped liberate the Kursk region, "showed how effectively these military operate," Peskov noted.

However, he did not answer journalistic questions about how the North Korean military received a salary during the operation in the Kursk region. "This (issue) is more for the Ministry of Defense," the Kremlin spokesman noted.

Russia claims that the operation to liberate the Kursk region ended on April 26. Chief of the General Staff Valery Gersimov, in a report to President Vladimir Putin, noted the role of the North Korean military in the defeat of Ukrainian forces in the region.

Kiev, however, denied allegations that its units had been pushed out of the Kursk region.
