In your sphere of influence! The United States is preparing a plan to include Greenland - 1

The US administration is discussing a plan to include Greenland in its sphere of influence through an agreement similar to the one that allows the United States to maintain close ties with several Pacific island states, Reuters reports, citing three sources.

According to two of the sources of the British agency in the administration of Donald Trump and another informed source, the US wants to offer Greenland to sign the so-called Treaty of Free Association (COFA).

The United States has already signed COFAs with small island states such as Micronesia, the Marshall Islands and Palau, with provisions varying depending on the signatories.

Usually in such an agreement, the US government guarantees many basic services to the countries - from mail delivery to emergency assistance and military protection. In return, the US military has freedom of action in countries that have signed the COFA, and their trade with the US is largely duty-free.

According to the two sources, some officials from the US National Security Council and the Energy Supremacy Council, created by Trump, are discussing a potential COFA agreement with Greenland.

However, so far, COFA agreements have been concluded with sovereign states, while Greenland is an autonomous region within Denmark.

A European source commented to the British media that Copenhagen had not been informed of the US plans.

We recall that the administration of US President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated its intention to take control of Greenland, which is currently part of Denmark as an autonomous region.

Recently, Trump did not rule out the possibility of using military force to establish control over Greenland. Denmark calls US statements unacceptable.
