Smoking in public places outdoors will be officially banned in the Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca from August. The restrictive measure also includes electronic cigarettes and will be in force for public transport stops, parks and sports facilities, BTA reported.
Those who do not comply with the new rules and the law will be fined between 100 and 500 lei.
Thus, Cluj-Napoca becomes the first city in Romania to implement measures aimed at limiting smoking in public places.
Once the measures come into force, the city will have specially designed and designated places where smoking will be possible.
“Smoking outdoors will only be possible in specially designated spaces that will be at a sufficiently large distance from parks, stations and sports facilities,” the deputy mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Dan Tarcea, told the Romanian public television TeVere. He recalled that passive smoking causes up to 1.3 million deaths per year.
