US Secretary of State Marco Rubio honored the courage of the Chinese who were killed in the bloody repression of "Tiananmen Square" in the Chinese capital Beijing 36 years ago today, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
"We pay tribute to the courage of the Chinese people who were killed while trying to exercise their basic civil rights, as well as those who continue to suffer the consequences as they seek accountability and justice for what happened on June 4, 1989", Rubio said.
He added that the Chinese Communist Party "is actively trying to censor the facts, but the world will never forget".
Earlier, US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce reported that Rubio spoke by phone yesterday with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and the two discussed the second round of direct talks between Russia and Ukraine at the "Çaraan" Palace in the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul on Monday, as well as American steps towards lifting sanctions against Syria.
