Tensions between China and the US are rising: Beijing accuses Washington of serious interference in internal affairs - 1

Beijing today described as an "attack" the words of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who stated that the world will never forget the events in "Tiananmen Square" in 1989, Agence France-Presse reported, BTA reported.

Rubio's erroneous statements "maliciously distort historical facts and are a deliberate attack on China's political system and development path, they are a serious interference in China's internal affairs", Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jiang said at a regular press conference.

"China expresses strong dissatisfaction with this statement and resolutely opposes it," the spokesman also said. Marco Rubio previously said the world will never forget what happened at "Tiananmen", even though Beijing "is actively trying to censor the facts".

"Regarding the political turmoil in the late 1980s, the Chinese government has long drawn clear conclusions", Lin Jiang pointed out.

"The path of socialism with Chinese characteristics is the choice of history and the people (. . .), it enjoys the full support of the entire Chinese people and is recognized by a large part of the international community. We will continue to walk this path unwaveringly to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through modernization with Chinese characteristics," the Chinese spokesman added.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio paid tribute to the courage of the Chinese people who were killed in the bloody crackdown on Tiananmen Square in the Chinese capital Beijing 36 years ago today, Reuters reported.

"We pay tribute to the courage of the Chinese people who were killed while trying to exercise their basic civil rights, as well as those who continue to suffer the consequences as they seek accountability and justice for what happened on June 4, 1989," Rubio said. He added that the Chinese Communist Party "is actively trying to censor the facts, but the world will never forget.".
