Turkish resorts are crowded, and the big cities fell silent on the first day of the Muslim holiday of Kurban Bayram, reports the Turkish publication “Hürriyet Daily News“, quoted by BTA.

With the beginning of the holiday and the series of weekends, millions of people went on vacation with their families, leaving the megacities. Istanbul, where the noise of cars and horns never stops echoing, dawned relatively quiet. For many, the big trip began in the afternoon of June 4, and at “Sabiha Gökçen“ airport, additional passport control could be noticed. On June 6, at “Istanbul“ More than 1,600 flights and 250,000 passengers are expected.

There are additional buses and services at the bus stations to ensure the long journey from Istanbul to other provinces. In one of the most preferred summer destinations in Turkey - Bodrum, 50,000 cars entered within 24 hours, forming a kilometer-long traffic jam, the publication reported.

The mass departure from the big cities was accompanied by increased road control. The new speed cameras, some of which were placed every 30 kilometers, caused dissatisfaction among drivers, who instead of a preventive measure perceived them as a punitive measure.

However, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya supported them, defining them as life-saving. The goal is to have a significant decrease in fatal road accidents in Turkey by 2030. Meanwhile, emigrants returning from Europe for the holiday have increased border traffic. The border checkpoint “Kapitan Andreevo“ – “Kapıkule“ is among the busiest entry points into Turkey.
