Tehran: We have obtained sensitive documents on Israeli nuclear facilities - 1

Iran has obtained “sensitive“ documents about Israel, in particular about its nuclear facilities, reports Agence France-Presse, citing Iranian state television, writes BTA.

There are no details yet about the content of these documents or how Iran managed to obtain them.

“Iranian intelligence services have received a large amount of strategic and sensitive information and documents belonging to Israel, including thousands of documents related to nuclear projects and facilities“, Iran's state television briefly reported.

These allegations come against the backdrop of tensions over Iran's nuclear program, which Israeli leaders perceive as an existential threat.

Western countries, led by the United States, and Israel, which according to experts is the only nuclear power in the Middle East, suspect Iran of having ambitions to acquire nuclear weapons. Iran denies any such intentions, insisting it has the right to develop its nuclear program for civilian purposes.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly expressed support for military action against Iran's nuclear facilities.

The two countries have been embroiled in a secret war for years. Iran regularly arrests people accused of espionage and has in the past accused Israel of orchestrating targeted assassinations or sabotage related to its nuclear program.

Tensions reached a peak last year when Iran twice directly attacked Israeli territory with missiles and drones.

Iran has claimed the attacks were a legitimate response to a deadly strike on its consulate in Syria, for which Israel was blamed.

Tehran has also spoken of revenge for the assassination of former Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on Iranian territory, for which Israel claimed responsibility, as well as the death of Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the Lebanese group "Hezbollah", killed in an Israeli strike in Lebanon.
