The Polish army has joined a large-scale police operation to pursue a suspect in a double murder, Defense Minister Wladyslaw Koszyniak-Kamysz announced last night on the "Ex" platform, BTA reported.
The operation is taking place in the area of the town of Limanowa, south of Krakow, and includes the use of drones, the minister specified. This is the third consecutive day that the case has captured the attention of the public in Poland, DPA notes.
Hundreds of police officers, assisted by helicopters, are involved in the search. A public warning has been issued that the suspect is armed and dangerous.
The case involves a double murder and an attempted murder. According to media reports, the 57-year-old man was already under investigation by the police and judicial authorities in connection with another crime.
He was due to be taken into custody soon, but before that he requested access to his case files. According to the police, it was the review of these documents that may have triggered his impulsive reaction.
According to the information available so far, the man shot his daughter and son-in-law on Friday in a neighboring village near Limanova. He is also accused of attempting to murder his mother-in-law, who is in critical condition.
The suspect fled into the nearby forest and was last seen on Saturday evening. Witnesses reported that he fired at pursuing police officers.
