Any delay or postponement of US arms deliveries to Kiev will encourage Russia to continue its invasion, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said today, after invoking the American chargé d'affaires, reported Agence France-Presse.
“The Ukrainian side stressed that any delay or postponement of support for Ukraine's defense capabilities will only encourage the aggressor to continue war and terror, instead of seeking peace“, the Ukrainian ministry said in a statement.
Yesterday, the United States announced that it was stopping the supply of certain weapons to Kiev, indicating that it was concerned about its own dwindling ammunition stocks. At the same time, the Russian military has stepped up its strikes against Ukraine.
Kiev is trying to clarify the situation with Washington, said Dmytro Litvin, an adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky. "Communication with the American side is currently ongoing at all levels," Litvin told the media.
The United States is suspending some deliveries of air defense missiles and other ammunition to Ukraine due to concerns that its own stockpiles of such materials have become too depleted, officials said Tuesday (US time), the Associated Press reported.
The ammunition was promised to Ukraine during the administration of President Joe Biden. The halt in deliveries reflects new priorities under President Donald Trump, the AP said.
"This decision was made to put America's interests first after the Department of Defense reviewed our country's military support and assistance to other countries around the world," White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said in a statement. "The strength of the United States military remains undeniable - just ask Iran," the spokeswoman said.
