All external power lines supplying the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine with electricity for the reactor cooling systems have been cut off, Reuters reported, citing a statement from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) today, BTA reported.

"Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was completely cut off from its external power supply at 5:36 p.m. today, for the ninth time since the military conflict and for the first time since the end of 2023," the IAEA announced in a post on the social platform "Ex".

The International Atomic Energy Agency specified that the plant on Ukrainian territory, which is under the control of Russia, relies on generators running on diesel fuel to maintain low temperatures in the reactors.

None of the six nuclear reactors at the Zaporizhzhia NPP is operating, but the plant needs energy to maintain their cooling systems for safety reasons, Reuters points out.
