Following the vote in plenary of the positive opinion on Bulgaria's candidacy to adopt the euro and join the eurozone on 1 January 2026. European Parliament President Roberta Mezzola said:
„I am proud of the vote of the European Parliament, which paves the way for Bulgaria to join the eurozone.
This is another big step forward for the people of Bulgaria and Europe towards a currency that brings security and stability.

„We achieved an excellent result in the plenary session just a few minutes ago, when 531 MEPs voted for Bulgaria to join the eurozone and took, I would say, the final steps towards what we have been saying for a long time: The euro is stability. The euro means security and stability.
Bulgaria has shown incredible commitment. The enormous success that Bulgaria is demonstrating today as a member of the Schengen area, after so many years outside it, with the decision to join it being taken last year, is evident. The country's significant progress towards full economic convergence is also visible."
