The European Commission and the government of Slovakia have agreed on plans for the country to gradually stop consuming Russian gas, taking into account national specificities. This was announced by the spokeswoman of the European Commission Anna-Kaisa Itkonen, reports Censor.NET, quoted by Focus.
She noted that such an approach should guarantee Slovakia's energy security, as well as the stability of supplies and prices throughout the EU. According to her, Russia has repeatedly proven to be an unreliable partner.
"Giving up on its energy sources is a step towards greater security“, Itkonen emphasizes. At the same time, the Slovak government is still considering the final version of the proposed plan.
