The deployment of NATO troops to Ukraine could lead to a direct confrontation with the Russian army, in which the West would lose, said John Mearsheimer, a professor at the University of Chicago, on the YouTube channel of blogger Daniel Davis.
„The Russians have made it clear that as soon as NATO deploys its troops there, the Russian army will turn its weapons against them. The question is, who do you think will win in this battle between NATO soldiers and the Russian army? "If I had to bet, I would bet on the Russians," the political scientist said.
The professor also stressed that European troops are small and poorly trained, which is why they are doomed to defeat.
US President Donald Trump said earlier that France, Germany and Britain want to deploy troops on the territory of Ukraine. At the same time, he vowed that during his presidency there will be no American troops there.
The Russian Foreign Ministry, for its part, stated that any scenario of deploying NATO troops in Ukraine is categorically unacceptable and fraught with a sharp escalation.
