The Palestinian Islamist movement "Hamas" confirmed today the death of one of its leaders - Mohammed Sinwar - three months after the Israeli army announced that it had killed him in a strike on the city of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.
Mohammed Sinwar was the head of "Hamas" for the Gaza Strip and the brother of Yahya Sinwar - the former supreme leader of the movement, described as the "main architect" of the unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which became the occasion for the war in Gaza.
Yahia Sinwar himself was killed in shelling by Israeli soldiers in southern Gaza in October 2024.
Mohammed Sinwar was "eliminated" on May 13, 2025, "while hiding in an underground command and control center," the Israeli army announced today.
The Palestinian movement released photos last night of its political and military leaders killed by Israel, including that of Mohammed Sinwar. The others include Yahya Sinwar, the political leader of "Hamas"; Ismail Haniyeh, the commander-in-chief of the movement's armed wing - the "Izzedine al-Qassam" Brigades; - Mohammed Deif, and two members of the military council - Bassem Issa and Raed Tabet. All of them are presented as the "martyrs of the Military Council".
