I've got a meeting next week with the surgical training director before I apply for my surgical position in less than a month. How exciting & scary! Help me out Instafam, should I wear a safe black power suit, or mix it up with full colour?! #womeninsurgery #femaleempowerment #medicine #diversedoctors #scrublife @thedocsofinsta

View this post on InstagramThe 'auxiliary' white coat effect in hospitals: perceptions of patients and doctors. A doctor's attire is important in making a positive first impression & enhancing the overall healthcare experience for patients. Most patients preferred doctors to dress formally in white coats regardless of the scenario or location, whereas the majority of doctors preferred formal attire with no white coat. The findings found in this study confirmed that patients perceived doctors in white coats to be more "trustworthy, responsible, authoritative, confident, knowledgeable and caring." This shows that there is a continued need to educate the public about the reasons for changes in doctors' traditional dress codes. Infection control is one reason behind the change to outdated attire. At SA Health we practice by a 'bare below the elbows' policy, so that hand hygiene can be performed properly without long sleeves getting in the way. The old 'white coat' could be a vector for cross contamination. ➕Continue to push to be the change. ➕Challenge perceptions. ✖Our clothing doesn't define us. ✖Our appearance shouldn't define us.
